Cleaning is a sometimes overlooked but still important aspect of agricultural equipment maintenance. While your farm equipment may be built to handle dirty jobs, putting off cleaning long-term can lead to performance issues and even structural damage. That is why Glade and Grove Supply has created this guide to cleaning your agricultural equipment.

Develop a Cleaning Routine

The longer you leave dirt and mud caked onto your equipment, the greater the chances it will lead to premature wear and tear. We suggest getting into the habit of cleaning your equipment immediately after you are done using it. This minimizes the time it spends uncleaned and helps ensure that you will not forget to clean it. Of course, if this is a piece of equipment that you use multiple times a week, it makes more sense to perform a weekly cleaning instead. Either way, we suggest using the cleaning as an opportunity to inspect your equipment for wear and tear.

Use Appropriate Cleaning Solutions & Tools

While cleaning solutions can help remove grease, oil, and other contaminants, using the wrong chemicals can damage your equipment. Check your owner’s manual for a list of approved cleaning products. You should also make sure that only non-abrasive cleaning tools such as soft brushes and sponges are used to clean sensitive components.

Focus on Critical Components

Once you are done cleaning your agricultural equipment’s exterior, focus on the interior components such as engine compartments, hydraulic systems, and electrical circuits. You should also clean out the vents and replace any dirty filters. Performing these tasks will help extend the lifespan of your equipment and ensure safe, efficient operation.

Clean Attachments Separately

Cleaning your equipment’s attachments without removing them can result in damage or cross-contamination, so make sure that any attachments are cleaned separately. You can use this as an opportunity to inspect the bolts or latches for signs of wear or damage.
